Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you're curious about Christianity, or you are already saved and recently moved into the area, going to a new church can be very daunting.
We have compiled a few frequently asked questions to help your first time with us a little easier and smoother.
Where is the Church building?
We are situated just off the main road through South Elmsall, next to Home Bargains.
Our address is: Oasis Church
10a Exchange St. South Elmsall, Pontefract, WF9 2RD
What time should I arrive?
Our doors open at 9: 45 on Sunday Mornings and we have a 10 Minute prayer time at 10:00 am, So if you want to arrive early and join us in praying for the meeting, anytime before 10. Our main service starts at 10: 30, so if you want to come for that then any time between 10:15 and 10: 30. Don’t worry if you are late, there will be someone to greet you and show you to a seat; just join in when you arrive.
Where can I park?
If you drive past the church you will enter a large Aldi car park. Parking is free for the first two hours.
Be prepared though – the service may last longer, and if you stay for coffee, it could be longer still. the parking fee for more than 2hours is not a lot, so don’t worry, but DON’T GET FINED
What can I expect to happen?
We are a very friendly bunch at Oasis, and you can expect a warm welcome to you and your family. You will receive a welcome pack, and shown to the main hall.
We give the notices at the beginning of the service, to make everyone aware of what’s happening through the week, then we get down to praising the Lord.
The bible encourages to sing and to make a joyful noise to God, and we do just that. This prepares us to receive the word of God, and we are strongly grounded in the bible.
We are an Evangelical, Spirit-filled church and, while we don’t encourage some of the excesses of some churches, we are very open to the move of the Spirit, so long as it agrees with and conforms to scripture. We do have communion, but this does not happen every week, so that it does not become a cold tradition just done for the sake of it.
After the service we stay behind for fellowship as long as people want – and drink coffee! (Tea and cold drinks are also available).
How long does the service last?
We are led by the Spirit and we can’t put a time limit on Him, but generally speaking around 90 minutes. But please don’t rush off afterwards, we stay behind for fellowship and have tea or coffee (we have freshly ground coffee by the way) and usually cake and/or biscuits.
What should I wear?
Clothes! Seriously though, come as you are. We have no set requirements, although perhaps best to leave bikinis/speedos for the beach 😉
Can I bring my kids?
Absolutely! we are very family-friendly and welcome children. The kids stay with us for the praise and worship and then go for more age appropriate church. We have our version of Sunday school – Camel Club, for children up to 9 years old. 10 to 15 years old have Curious Kids Church, and over 15 years are expected to stay in the main meeting with the adults.
Our Children’s leaders have had all their background checks done and are qualified to lead the groups.
